Bike Night Finals

Posted in Photo on July 23rd, 2008 by Zac – 2 Comments

Had an excellent turn out at the Bike Night Portrait Event that I threw on Wednesday. Got a total of 15 orders – but unfortunately lost $300 worth of equipment to a clumsy bastard who knocked one of my SB800’s off the light stand. It still works, but the display is all jacked up and you can no longer see what power the flash is set on so it’s kinda useless =(

That aside, everything went great. Steve Reif (pictured above), the owner of The Villa, wanted to do a burnout on camera so we did that first while I tested the lights. Then after people saw that, everyone else wanted to do one! So it was pretty much burnouts all night, with a couple of nice portraits mixed in. Check ‘em out after the bump!

New camera, new photos

Posted in Photo, lighting setup on July 10th, 2008 by Zac – Comments Off

Well I finally ponied up the cash and got myself a D300 to replace my stolen D70. Anxious to try it out, I had my roommate Steve come outside and shoot a few photos with me. I used the same 3 light setup that I had used with him last time, only this time I learned a new trick. And it probably sounds elementary as hell, but it was a big “ah-ha!” moment for me. I started out shooting him straight on, 2 SB800 rim lights behind, and 1 ABR800 in 30″ moon unit main light above and in front, but then I slinked around to his left side and shot from a different angle using the same setup (animated below):

Here’s how they turned out:
